The Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust (PRSRTT) has created a collaborative space in its Ponce office so that entrepreneurs affected by earthquakes can continue operations. The space, located in the annex of the Department of Labor and Human Resources in Ponce, will be available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM while the emergency lasts. The spaces are limited, so those companies interested in using the facilities must request the space and fill out an initial needs survey through http://bit.ly/coworkingPonce.

In keeping with its vision of improving the public health of the communities of the Island, the Puerto Rico Public Health Trust (PRPHT) announced today that, as of this Friday , January 10, 2020, it will open the official platform for researchers in the country to submit proposals aligned to public health, towards increasing the understanding of these issues and discuss solutions in partnership with the communities of Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rico Public Health Trust is part of the 16 programs of the P.R. Science, Technology & Research Trust.

With Hurricane Maria as the backdrop, representatives from 114 universities in Puerto Rico, Japan, United States and Bahamas committed to creating a consortium to help redefine the rol of higher education institutions in the face of disaster and to foster community resilience. They were joined by more than 70 government agencies and non-profits. That was the conclusion of “RISE 2019 National Conference: Transforming University Engagement in Pre- and Post-Disaster Environments: Lessons from Puerto Rico”, recently held at the State University of New York in Albany.

Due to the warming ocean temperatures, coral reefs around Puerto Rico have been under stress for more than 7 weeks in a row, which could provoke a massive bleaching event after October 27. If this bleaching occurs there could be negative effects of unknown magnitude to fishing, recreational and tourism industries.
