Who is CienciaCoLab for?
Any community leader residing in Puerto Rico and working with vulnerable or marginalized communities
Demonstrate a history of leadership in their community
Be over 18 years of age
We define community as a group of people united by something common, for example, a physical space, social or cultural identities, religion, age, nationalities, etc.
Vulnerable or marginalized communities include impoverished individuals, people with functional diversity and disabilities, women heads of household, Black people, homeless individuals, immigrants, Deaf people, LGBTQ+, etc.
What does CienciaCoLab consist of?
CienciaCoLab has a hybrid format, consisting of virtual and in-person sessions. The program has THREE (3) main components:
Workshops
Discussions and panels
Development of a community science project proposal
The estimated total time invested across all curriculum sessions and the final proposal is approximately 45 hours.
What are the requirements to apply?
Be a community leader residing in Puerto Rico and working with vulnerable or marginalized communities, able to demonstrate a history of leadership in their community and be over 18 years old.
Be available to attend virtual sessions and in-person sessions in San Juan.
Have access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone to participate in virtual meetings and complete the proposal.
Be able to receive seed funds either through a non-profit organization or individually.
What are the minimum requirements to complete the program?
The selected leaders commit to:
Participate in the required in-person sessions, including the closing event.
Submit a simple proposal (which CienciaCoLab will support you in preparing) for your community science project. You will be eligible to receive $2,000 in seed funding for your project after submitting this proposal.
Participate in at least 4 of the 6 scheduled virtual sessions. The sessions will be recorded, so if you cannot participate live, watching the recording will count as participation. However, we encourage you to participate live whenever possible, as the sessions are more impactful and enjoyable when experienced live with the community.
