Innovative Programs to Enhance Research Training (IPERT)​, from the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research at the University of Puerto Rico Cayey Campus, existed until July 2022 with the goal of undergraduate university students expanding their biomedical research skills and health-related areas.

Researchers:  Dr. Isar P. Godreau (UPR-Cayey),  Dr. Mariluz Franco (UPR-Cayey) and Dr. Raymond Tremblay (UPR-Humacao) ​

General objective: To offer a training and support program for students and faculty that strengthens the capacity of UPR and other universities to conduct competitive, sustainable, interdisciplinary research on biomedical and social aspects affecting health. To provide students with the necessary training and experience to pursue advanced studies in health-related fields. The UPR-IPERT program is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, a federal agency known by its acronym NIH, and by its institute,  National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS).

UPR-IPERT Values

We seek students from low-income families enrolled in Social Sciences and Natural Sciences programs.

Resources developed by UPR-IPERT include:

  • Virtual seminars (webinars) that address biomedical research topics, as well as ethical, social, and environmental aspects affecting health.
  • Tools to prepare your professional development plan (PDP).
  • Online research certificates: 6 virtual modules.
  • Webinar and resources to improve your mentoring skills (for faculty).

The resources we share in this section were developed thanks to grant number R25GM121270 from the National Institutes of Health, a federal agency known by its acronym in English as NIH, and by its institute, National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS).  We have the collaboration of UPR Humacao and CienciaPR.
