In the 2020-2021 cycle, Seeds of Success seeks to inspire 120 middle school girls in Puerto Rico to explore STEM careers. This year we receive the support and collaboration of the IF/THEN Initiative which seeks to advance women in STEM by empowering innovative STEM professionals who can inspire the next generation of pioneers. A group of Latin IF/THEN ambassadors, composed of Roselin, Rosario, Minerva Cordero, Beatris Mendes and Greetchen Díaz will be co-organizers of Seeds of Success. Other IF/THEN ambassadors will join Seeds of Success 2020-2021.

 

Who can apply?

Girls from 7th-9th grade (and homeschoolers) during the 2020-2021 school year in Puerto Rico. We are looking for students who want to learn more about STEM and make an impact in their school and community!

 

What is the cost?

Free! Participants will receive educational materials and support from Seeds of Success staff to complete the program, as well as meals (in-person activities) at no cost.

Why to apply?

The selected girls will be able to:
• Receive educational and entertaining material on STEM disciplines
• Receive leadership and coding workshops
• Learn more about careers and opportunities in STEM
• Meet scientists and engineers, our "Borinqueñas"
• Receive mentoring from our "Borinqueñas"
• Live the experience of visiting a scientific research laboratory
• Carry out STEM activities
• Feed their curiosity and creativity
• Receive a $ 50 mini-grant for a STEM outreach project that will inspire more boys and girls and their community at large
• Develop their leadership skills! She will be able to impact her community through STEM disciplines

When will the program take place?

What are the expectations for the selected girls?

Attend online seminars: 1 online orientation seminar + leadership workshop and at least 2 online talks from the "Juntas Podemos" series where great women in STEM will tell their stories.
Complete the assigned activities at home: 1 "hands on" activity in STEM and 1 STEM ambassador project design template
Participate in 1: 1 mentoring sessions: At least 2 mentoring sessions with an assigned Borinqueñas
Design and complete a STEM ambassador project: The STEM Ambassador projects are at the discretion of the student, with the advice of her mentor and Semillas de Triunfo staff. During the program, the girls will receive help thinking and planning their STEM Ambassador project. The only requirement is that they are focused on exposing other girls and boys (of any age) to some subject related to STEM disciplines.
Attend face-to-face activities: 1 coding workshop + visit to a laboratory (in Mayagüez, San Juan or Humacao) and 1 closing event.
