During my PhD, I really missed being close to my family in Orocovis and interacting with other Puerto Ricans that also wanted to contribute ideas to the scientific development of the island. I wasn’t sure where to start so I decided to invite Dr. Daniel Colón Ramos, a professor at Yale University, to offer a seminar to students and professors of my program at Brandeis University. Daniel agreed, and without realizing it, I got involved in one of the most rewarding projects of my professional life.

Puerto Rican Scientist at Yale receives HHMI award

Dr. Daniel Colón Ramos recieved an award from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). He was one of 84 scientists to receive the award from a pool of 1400 candidates.

Puerto Rican Student recieved award at EPA Symposium

Luis González (Universidad del Turabo) recieved 2nd place at the 2nd International Environmental Youth Symposium of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in Atlanta, GA. The project name was Estimating Evapotranspiration using Pyranometer Sensor Data and Satellite Data.

Engineering Professor at UPR Mayagüez received international award

Dr. Lourdes A. Medina Avilés, engineering professor at UPR Mayagüez received two international awards:

Manufacturing and Design Division Outstanding Service Award by the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE).

Emerging Leader in 2015 by the 'Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico (CIAPR)'

GSBS Student Reyes named Albert Schweitzer Fellow

The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston would like to congratulate neuroscience Ph.D. student Sahily Reyes for being named an Albert Schweitzer Fellow at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Her advisor is GSBS Associate Dean of Graduate Education and Professor Andrew Bean, Ph.D.

Researcher at the UPR received NIH grant to study the epigenetics of cleft palate

Dr.Carmen Buxó, researcher at the University of Puerto Rico received an K99/R00 NIH grant called FaceGenes to study the epigenetics of cleft palate.

Professor at UPR Mayaguez received STTR grant from NASA

Dr. Arturo J. Hernández Maldonado, a professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez received a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant from NASA. This is the first grant of this type granted to a researcher in Puerto Rican.

Student at the UPR-RUM recieved 1st place for his poster at IISE

Andrés F. Calle Hoyos, student at the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico in (RUM), received an award for his poster (Experimental Design Analysis of Stir Casting of Enhanced Aluminum Filler Reinforced with NbB2 Nanoparticles) at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) conference in Anaheim, California.
