Four science teachers from Puerto Rico will receive NSF award from President Obama

Four science teachers from Puerto Rico will receive the National Science Foundation's Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching from President Obama.

RUM students receive 5 awards at PACE Global forum

Ten students from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus (nine from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and one from the Department of English) formed part of a team that received 5 awards during the Global Forum of the Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE), that took place in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Latina Science Outreach and Diversity Advocate Is Among 65 Inspiring Women in STEM Award Winners

Dr. Mónica I. Feliú-Mójer, Vice-Director for Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) and Science Outreach Program Manager for iBiology, has been selected to receive the 2016 Inspiring Women in STEM Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.

This award honors women who work to make a difference in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Dr. Feliú-Mójer will be featured, along with 64 other recipients, in the September 2016 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education.

Rock Solid: 15 years of collegial commitment

The Puerto Rican company, Rock Solid Technologies, Inc. has been compensating the effort and dedication of college students for 15 years. On this ocasion, they provided a scholarship and a summer job opportunity to three students from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus.

Professor from UPRM receives Paul Erdös Award 2016

Doctor Luis F. Cáceres Duque, Professor from the Mathematical Science Department at the University of Puerto Rico - Mayaguez Campus, received the Paul Erdös Award at the Univesity of Hamburg in Germany on July 30, 2016. This prestigious award is given by the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions for those who have played a significant role in the development of mathematical challenges in the 20th century.

A pilgrimage through Puerto Rican Science

To be in a cold, inhospitable climate, with your colleagues telling you stories of people disappearing under the snow in winter storms makes anyone second guess his decision to leave the beaches of my homeland for the cold winters of Boston.

After moving to that inspiring and musical city, somehow I learned of an initiative called Ciencia Puerto Rico, and they  had created a website. I thought: "More boricua nerds, good! What a great idea!" So I went to the site, created a profile and invited all my friends from the Chemistry Department at UPR-Mayaguez to join.
