One of the astronomic events of the year will be the closeness between Mars and Earth on their respective orbits. Although Mars will only appear to be brigher than usual to the naked eye, this closeness will allow observers to view details on the Planet Mars, such as ice on the north pole, through their telescopes.

Two comets with similar orbit are getting close to our planet, and one of these will pass at a short distance, making it the closes to earth in 246 years.

The activity will be this Saturday, January 16 starting at 7:30pm at el Centro Histórico-Turístico del Cibuco, located in Bo. Cibuco, Carr. PR-818 in Corozal.

A couple of years ago, one of my thesis mentors sought visually impaired scientists working at a major space science agency in the United States. I was surprised when he reported that there were several visually impaired engineers, but almost no visually impaired scientists like me.

Recently discovered asteroid will come close to Earth on Sunday

Space rocks continue to be hard to detect when they are relatively small. An asteroid which size is estimated between 29 and 91 feet in diameter will pass close to Earth on Sunday, informed the Center of Asteroid Detection of the Astronomical International Union.
