CienciaPR and the Department of Education of Puerto Rico will Participate in Smithsonian's Educational Summit

A team composed of educators in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and members of the organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) will participate in an event organized by the Smithsonian Education Center and sponsored by Shell Oil Company, on March 22-24, 2019 in New Orleans.

The team that will represent Puerto Rico is formed by members of the educational region of San Juan: leaders Lydia Báez and Marta Oyola, teachers Mildred Vega and Dimarilys Bruno, and by Dr. Greetchen Díaz, Director of Science Education Programs and Community Partnerships for Ciencia Puerto Rico, a non-profit organization that brings together 10,000 professionals and STEM educators with the mission of democratizing and transforming scientific education.

SAN JUAN, PR — This coming November 27, Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) will participate—for the second year in a row—of #GivingTuesday, a global movement through which millions of people, organizations and companies support causes in which they believe. The non-profit organization will be raising funds to support its educational project "Ciencia al Servicio de Puerto Rico” (Science in Service of Puerto Rico), which seeks to transform how science is taught in local schools.

CienciaPR receives funds from the JetBlue Foundation to promote scientific education in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, PR — The non-profit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR, www.cienciapr.org) received $25,000 from the JetBlue Foundation for its "Ciencia al Servicio" (Science in Service) project, which seeks to transform the way science is taught in Puerto Rico.

The JetBlue Foundation awarded $135,000 in total aid to Ciencia Puerto Rico, EcoExploratorio, Inter American University of Puerto Rico and PRAMI (Puerto Rico Aviation Maintenance Institute).

Today he is an award-winning and world-renowned scientist, inventor and professor of bioengineering at Stanford University. Educators learn to use telescopes as part of the "Astronomía al Servicio" project

SAN JUAN, PR - On September 21, 2018, 24 teachers from 14 Puerto Rican schools learned how to use telescopes as a teaching tool, as part of their participation in the "Astronomía al Servicio" project.

"Astronomía al Servicio" is a collaborative project between Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR), Astronomers Without Borders, the Office of Astronomy for Development of the International Astronomical Union, the Instituto Nueva Escuela and the Puerto Rico Astronomy Society. The project seeks to promote education, scientific exploration, and citizen participation through the establishment of astronomy clubs in schools.

Scientists and teachers come together to empower students to put "Science in Service of Puerto Rico"

SAN JUAN, PR - For the past two days, more than 50 teachers and 15 scientists received training and designed educational lessons so that students from the Puerto Rican archipelago can put "Science in Service of Puerto Rico" (Ciencia al Servicio de Puerto Rico). Teachers and researchers participated in the inaugural workshop of the project of the same name, which was created and is led by the non-profit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR).

Ciencia Al Servicio Project

Ciencia al Servicio de Puerto Rico it is an educational project that seeks to democratize and transform scientific education by putting science at the service of society (Science at Service). The program brings together experts in STEM areas, educators and students to implement during the academic year, project-based learning science lessons that:
  • Are developed by teachers and STEM professionals during a summer workshop
  • Integrate project-based learning (PBL) with science education standards
  • Provide role models for students through visits of scientists to schools
  • Provide culturally and socially relevant educational experiences and promote citizen integration and service by students
  • Encourages critical thinking and the development of positive attitudes towards science
