The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) and the Office of the General Coordinator for Socioeconomic Finance and Self Management (OFSA), began a collaboration to develop projects focused on sustainable development and reusable energy for communities in the Island.

A pilot project to be developed in Yauco will turn food waste intro electrical power and compost. The project is a collaboration between the Center for Sustainable Agriculture Small Businesses and Technology of Yauco and the Polytechnic University of Nicaragua.

The National Wildlife Refuge in Vieques is the only one of its kind in Puerto Rico to produce its own electricity based on solar power. For that they will be recognized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
