Students from nine high schools in San Lorenzo, Caguas, Cidra, Bayamón and Cayey, were selected to participate in the “Coquitron Transformed #1144” project, for their interest in science and mathematics. The Puerto Rican team will compete against 1,500 teams and 37,500 students from high schools in the Uited States and other countries. The competition tica was created by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a non-profit entity created to foster interest in science and technology in students. Fascinated by nanotechnology

The Synergistic Partnership for Research and Education on Nanostructured and Functional Materials of the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez is a proyect that started in 2004 when the University received a $2.7 million grant for five year from the National Science Foundation to do research in material sciences focusing on nanotechnology. Thanks to PREM, hundreds of high school students have discovered nanotechnolgy.

Before he turned 16 years-old, Larry Cunningham had lived four years in China, four years in Philippines, four years in India and four years in the United States. His experiences as a globe-trotter were not always easy, but as he kept “walking” he ended up in Puerto Rico. He’s lived in the Island since 1960’s, were he established himself as a pneumologist, profession he still practices and teaches at the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico.
