This year, the Arecibo Observatory celebrates its 50th birthday. The site has been visited by countless of scientists from all over the world, by students from kindergarden to college and has become a famous touristic destination.

Among its important contributions to science, the Arecibo Observatory has helped elaborate maps of distant planets, calculated distances between galaxies, registered waves that have traveled millions of light years, and observed new galaxies being born.

Becoming a scientist is a very individual process and can involve different paths as we discover and combine diverse experiences and interests. Although the trajectory to becoming a scientist is something very personal, finding a way to merge our passions is one of the most important things that we can do to ensure professional success, especially in the sciences. This was the case for astronomer, graphic artist and photographer José Francisco Salgado.

Con la participación de sobre 300 estudiantes de escuela superior, de varios municipios en la Isla, la Universidad Metropolitana, del Sistema Universitario Ana G. Méndez, celebró el evento Día de las Ciencias: El cambio climático global.

Esta actividad tenía como propósito concienciar a los jóvenes preuniversitarios sobre la problemática de este fenómeno causado por la actividad humana o por los procesos naturales de la Tierra y el Sistema Solar.
