EPA Honors Puerto Rico Environmental Champions

(New York, N.Y. – April 24, 2015) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced that it has honored five individuals and organizations from across Puerto Rico with Environmental Champion Awards for their achievements in protecting public health and the environment. EPA Regional Administrator Judith A. Enck was joined by Donovan Richards, Chair of the New York City Council's Committee on Environmental Protection, to present the awards to this year’s recipients at a ceremony at the EPA’s offices in Manhattan. An awards ceremony in San Juan will be held at a later date.

From a young age, Dr. Larissa Avilés Santa knew she wanted to study the human body. “When I was in fourth or fifth grade I remember opening an Anatomy atlas and how fascinated I was by each illustration. The part of the book that caught my attention was the one about the male and female reproductive systems, and the explanation about the menstrual cycle and pregnancy,” she says. It was back then that her interest in endocrinology was born.

National Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship

The 2013 National Hispanic Health Professional Scholarship is open to any student enrolled fulltime in an accredited graduate nursing, public health, health policy, dentistry or medical school. Nursing BSN students will only be considered for the $2,000 one year scholarships. We will not consider any health professions not listed above.

Graduate fellowship - Emerging Infectious Diseases

Ferguson Emerging Infectious Diseases Fellowship provides public health research and professional development in the area of infectious diseases and health disparities with a special focus on increasing knowledge and interest in public health careers among students from under-represented populations. The 9-week fellowship program is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

PAID Health Administration Fellowship - Office of the Surgeon General in Washington DC
