Research conducted in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at the Medical Sciences Campus from the University of Puerto Rico, sought to determine if teenagers were naturally predisposed to alcoholism. This study revealed that the age at which drinking begins outranks genetics as an essential marker to predict alcoholism in adulthood.

In the face of an increase in the number of cleft lip and cleft palate in Puerto Rico, the School of Dental Medicine in the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico inaugurated the Center of Dental and Craneofacial Genomics, to promote the research of congenital defects and to create community partnerships.

El estudio liderado por la doctora Loyda Meléndez, tiene como propósito evaluar el mecanismo de acción de las proteínas celulares relacionadas con la pérdida de la memoria causada por el VIH.
