Multiple Campuses of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) have created new academic programs in the STEM fields. 

UPR at Mayagüez (RUM) have created 2 new bachelors in engineering.

UPR at Aguadilla created an associate degree in Aeronautics and Aerospatial Technology.

Students from Puerto Rican and U.S.-based institutions are spending the summer at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez participating of the Research Experience for Undergraduates in Reconfigurable and Multifunctional Soft Materials (REU RMSM) program, based at the Department of Chemical Engineering. The program is funded by the National Science Foundation and the Institut for Functional Nanomaterials.
