NASA recently awarded a grant to doctor Arturo J. Hernández Maldonado, professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez (UPRM) to develop and transfer technology that will help astronauts in the International Space Station breath air that is more pure and requires less energy to generate.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $4 million grant to the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez to research and identify new technologys that lead to sustainable agricultural practices, renewable energy sources and better water and soil quality.

Professor at UPR Mayaguez received STTR grant from NASA

Dr. Arturo J. Hernández Maldonado, a professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez received a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant from NASA. This is the first grant of this type granted to a researcher in Puerto Rican.

Student at the UPR-RUM recieved 1st place for his poster at IISE

Andrés F. Calle Hoyos, student at the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico in (RUM), received an award for his poster (Experimental Design Analysis of Stir Casting of Enhanced Aluminum Filler Reinforced with NbB2 Nanoparticles) at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) conference in Anaheim, California.

RUM students receive 5 awards at PACE Global forum

Ten students from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus (nine from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and one from the Department of English) formed part of a team that received 5 awards during the Global Forum of the Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE), that took place in Cincinnati, Ohio.

RUM graduate named presidential professor at UPenn

José Arturo Bauermeister had been appointed as a Presidental Professor at UPenn, this position arises from the Action Plan for Faculty Diversity and Excellence that seks to recruit and retain professors with exceptional trayectories in order to promote Faculty diversity. Dr. Bauermeister graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Department of Social Sciences where he investigated the stigma associated with communities affected by HIV.

Professor from UPRM receives Paul Erdös Award 2016

Doctor Luis F. Cáceres Duque, Professor from the Mathematical Science Department at the University of Puerto Rico - Mayaguez Campus, received the Paul Erdös Award at the Univesity of Hamburg in Germany on July 30, 2016. This prestigious award is given by the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions for those who have played a significant role in the development of mathematical challenges in the 20th century.
