As part of its social mission, The University of Puerto Rico at Carolina (UPR Carolina) is teaching students from the Elementary School Dr. Clemente Fernandez, about the academic use of technology. Once a month, students visit the Center for Learning Resources Jose P. Fernandez Miranda, at the Carolina campus, where they learn technology management skills that can be applied to their classes.

Despite having a higher risk factor of coronary disease, in Puerto Rico the incidence of these diseases is 30% lower than in the United States.  A study by Dr. Pablo Ivan Altieri, a cardiologist and researcher from the School of Medicine from the Medical Science Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, suggested that this is due to ethnicity and genetic factors of the population.

This belief is sustained by distorted numbers and statistics, without considering the efforts that have been taken to make it more sustainable in the future.
