My current research aims to elucidate the cellular and molecular . My research and training combine methods such as genetic labeling of specific cell types, rabies virus transsynaptic circuit mapping, recordings of neural activity using genetically encoded calcium sensors and electrophysiological methods to understand these mechanisms.
As an independent investigator, my lab has recently expanded to understand the contribution of specific neuroimmune genes to the wiring of developing prefrontal cortex networks. Using targeted genetic manipulation, we have obtained some exciting results, linking increased levels of C4A to aberrant synaptic plasticity in the prefrontal cortex and deficits in social behavior in rodents. Understanding the mechanisms that guide neural circuit formation in the developing brain is important because it may help establish unifying principles for neural computations and facilitate the development of therapeutic interventions for abnormal network function as is found in schizophrenia and autism.
