Welcome to CienciaPR, an expert and resource network for all who are interested in science and Puerto Rico.
Innovation and critical thinking are two factors that motivate me to continue to learn and become more involved in biomedical research. Although I am interested in all areas of science ranging from social science to the natural sciences, I have most enjoyed my research experiences in biomedical research. My strengths are that I am perseverant, responsible, a strong team member and hold myself to a high standard for all my work.
My current research project is titled: “In silico drug discovery of Wee1 Kinase Inhibitors”. Building upon my previous experience working with Dr. Maldonado I am trying to identify potential inhibitors of the Wee1 protein kinase with the hypothesis that these compounds may inhibit the uncontrolled growth of cancer cells. Wee1 is an essential enzyme for cell cycle progression and thus inhibition of this enzyme may be a useful chemotherapeutic approach for cancer. At the current time I have identified one potential inhibitor using our in silico approach and it has been shown to successfully inhibit Wee1 kinase.
