Since 2003 I have been in the Biology Department at Farmingdale State and a key player in the development of the new bioscience curriculum at Farmingdale State and of new partnerships with local bioscience industry. I also hold faculty rank in the Department of Medicine at Stony Brook University. I live on Long Island with my husband, Rick. I have two children, Vanessa and Daniel.
Previously I was a Research Scientist at the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Director of Cellular Immunology Research Laboratory at Winthrop University Hospital and a Senior Research Scientist in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. On numerous occasions, I have taught and lectured at the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus and Centro Medico as a Visiting Professor. I have also collaborated with Puerto Rican scientists on biomedical research projects.
I earned a B.S. in Biology at the University of Puerto Rico, a M.S. in Biology at New York University and a Ph.D. in Immunology/Molecular Biology at the Department of Microbiology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California.
My postdoctoral fellowships have been at the Department of Pathology at Stony Brook University and the Department of Pathology at New York University.
I have reviewed scientific articles and grants for Blood, Clinical and Diagnostic Immunology, Journal of Clinical Rheumatology, Trends in Immunology, Rheumafonds (Netherlands), Medical Research Council in the UK, NSF, etc.

I am passionate about science educatiion and have developed an research internship program for Puerto Rican students in my research laboratory.
