Professor of Parasitology at the Department of Microbiology and Medical Zoology and Director of the Central Electron Microscope Unit, Medical Sciences Campus. Research interests include Wolbachia and other prokaryotes dwelling in parasites, epidemiology of helminthic infections in the Caribbean, and electron microscopy of medically inportant helminths, especially filariae and Trichinella spiralis.
Research focuses on elucidating basic charactersitics of Wolbachia infections in Filariae: life cycle, methods of reproduction, dissemination with the nematode host; identification of secretions in T. spiralis which control genomic expression in infected muscle cells; ultramorphology of parasitic nematodes.
