On March 28, 2019, a group of students from different STEM disciplines from the University of Puerto Rico at Ponce attended a presentation related to Microgrid Technologies, given by Dr. Fabio Andrade, associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Puerto Rico -Mayaguez. The presentation started by giving examples of Microgrid around the world. The presentation was mainly focused on three-phase voltage source inverters. The modeling and control of these power electronics converters were presented. Concepts like frequency and voltage droop control were explained, as well as the virtual impedance concept. After the presentation, an overview of the RISE-UP program was provided followed by a question and answer session.
