The National Graduate Student Research Festival will be held October 12th – 13th, 2006 on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland.
We will be selecting up to 250 students to spend two days talking about their research through poster sessions, meeting other students from around the U.S., learning about the research being done at NIH, and exploring postdoctoral training opportunities on the NIH campuses. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a PhD program in the U.S. and on schedule to complete their PhD degree by October, 2007. Travel and hotel expenses will be paid by NIH and meals will be provided during the Festival. If you are going to finish your PhD between October, 2206 and October, 2007, and especially if you have not made plans yet for postdoctoral training, we would welcome your application. Feel free to share this with your friends who will be graduating during this time period. Both U.S. and international students are eligible to apply. The attached flyer provides additional information about this great, what we hope will become annual, event.
The deadline for application is June 1 and the online application, along with additional details, can be found at:
http://www.training.nih.gov.
In addition to your application a letter of recommendation is required from your PhD research advisor. I would be happy to answer any questions about the Festival, which we believe will be a rewarding and informative event for all who participate.
Best wishes,

-----------
Dear CIENCIAPR,
I am working with Jim Vigoreaux, a professor of biology at UVM, to recruit for a post-doc in biology. This is a two-year post-doc that will provide much support for one's own program of research and has limited teaching responsibilities.
Thanks!
Peg

Thanks for the clarification Mrs Frontera. Is this information publicly available, and would it be possible to get a description of some of these patents so that CienciaPR members can see the type of discoveries being patented in PR?
We saw the article in the Caribbean Business but we are not sure who gave the information from the University of Puerto Rico. Being the Director of the Office of Intellectual Property of the UPR System at the Vicepresidency for Research and Technology, I would like to clarify the information. The portfolio of the UPR includes 28 patents, 11 of them granted in the last five years. Also, we have submitted 16 patent applications to the USPTO in the same period of time.
The Institutional Policy on Patents, Inventions and their Commercialization provides the mechanisms to protect the intellectual property of our researchers.

Also, for those of you searching for jobs: Science magazine has an excellent tool called NextWave which has a great job search engine, postings on career advice and things like that. If you go to the resource section of CienciaPR you can find a link to it. Happy job-searching!

Also, for those of you searching for jobs: Science magazine has an excellent tool called NextWave which has a great job search engine, postings on career advice and things like that. If you go to the resource section of CienciaPR you can find a link to it. Happy job-searching!
Testing date and time. It looks like we're EST on these servers.
