Please see the attached solicitation for Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers to participate in the 2015 Science of Signatures Advanced Studies Institute.  We are looking for young researchers from all technical fields to participate in this professional development program, which will take place at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Engineering Institute from April 13-May 1, 2015.
The Engineering Institute will invite a select group of accomplished Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers to LANL to learn the professional skills needed to write proposals and secure research funding.   LANL technical staff will provide formal instruction on proposal writing and developing research programs.  Participants will be placed in multidisciplinary teams of 3 and presented with challenging, open-ended research problems that are of importance to LANL's Science of Signatures: Forward Deployment national security mission.
The Science of Signatures is concerned with making measurements to understand complex systems under difficult and challenging circumstances.  These signatures are the unique elements of a threat or impact that allows us to locate them within their environments and describe them.  Forward Deployment focuses on bringing this technology from the laboratory into the field.  The teams will be tasked with generating novel research solutions to these problems, perform preliminary feasibility studies to support their solutions, and document their concepts and solutions in a proposal format.  Participants will present their proposals to a group of program managers for feedback and suggestions.

Please forward this information along to any students who you feel may benefit from participating in this program.  We are particularly targeting young researchers that aspire to academia or a career at a National Laboratory.

For consideration to this program, please submit the following to asi-sos@lanl.gov by Jan 16, 2015:
 CV
 1 letter of recommendation
 A brief synopsis of your professional goals and interest in participating as an Advanced Studies Scholar
