Public Health Associate Program (PHAP)
The Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) is a competitive two-year, paid training program for recent college graduates who are interested in a career in public health. PHAP gives recent graduates the opportunity to gain hands-on, real-life experience in the day-to-day operations of public health programs.
PHAP is looking for US citizens, permanent residents, or US nationals with a keen interest in public health. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, flexibility, social and cultural inclusiveness, and a desire to be of service.
Applicants must meet academic requirements—
College graduation within the past 2 years
US military veterans who are unable to apply within 2 years due to military service obligation have up to 6 years after graduation to apply
Currently enrolled students must graduate by July 1 of the application year to be eligible
Official academic transcripts showing at least a 2.95 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) on an eligible degree
PHAP associates are assigned to state, tribal, local, and territorial public health agencies and nongovernmental organizations, and work alongside other professionals across a variety of public health settings.
After graduating from PHAP, associates are qualified to convert non-competitively to full-time positions in CDC centers, institutes, or offices and other HHS operating divisions, or apply for positions with public health agencies and non-governmental organizations.
The 2023 PHAP associate application cycle opens January 18–25. You must apply on usajobs.gov during that time interval.
