TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

BIOCHEMISTRY ∙ COLLEGE OF NATURAL SCIENCES

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus invites applications for one (1) full time tenure-track faculty position to begin January 2015. The Department is seeking:

 outstanding candidates who employ biochemical and biophysical approaches to the study of or biological structures and biochemical interactions in an area that is biomedically relevant. Previous experience in structure determination utilizing NMR spectroscopy would be beneficial, but not required. The candidates must have at least two years of postdoctoral experience and have demonstrated excellence in innovative research, as well as the capacity to successfully obtain competitive research funds. Candidates must also have strong potential for being highly effective teachers at undergraduate and graduate levels. Preference will be given to candidates with disciplinary expertise in Biochemistry.

 applicants who can develop a structural biology research program that focuses on structure- function relationships of biomedically important macromolecules and/or protein-drug interactions. The candidates should have at least two years of postdoctoral experience and have demonstrated skills in protein chemistry, protein structure determination and in the preparation of large molecules for structure studies. A demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and previous experience at a national or international synchrotron would be highly beneficial, including past success in obtaining sponsorship for beam time and skills in the utilization of software. Candidates must also have demonstrated excellence in innovative research and the capacity to successfully obtain competitive research funds.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses; conduct research and publish in their areas of specialty; develop proposals seeking external funding; participate actively in departmental activities and projects, as well as those at the College of Natural Sciences and the Rio Piedras Campus, and fulfill all other obligations of a teaching job.
