Biological Sciences

ATTENTION: 

The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of anatomy/physiology/related fields beginning August 2018. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in human anatomy, human & animal physiology, and others, research, and service to the university and community. Research expertise should complement existing faculty expertise.

JOB DETAILS: 

The successful candidate will be able to teach Human Anatomy & Physiology, Animal Physiology, and additional courses (these may include courses for majors or minors, including a course in the specialty of the applicant.) The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Ph.D. in biology is required. [ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2018; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2019 in advance of their first scheduled review.] Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students, clear evidence of scholarly productivity and potential, and commitment to working with diverse populations and serving as active member of the university community. We are particularly interested in candidates with training and interest in pedagogical methods that enhance success and retention of a diverse student body. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Full-Time teaching responsibilities include Animal Physiology and Human Anatomy & Physiology courses. Other teaching responsibilities are expected, and may include major or non-major courses, including an advanced course in the specialty of the applicant to complement that of current faculty. Research expectations include development of an active research program in area of expertise, publication of research papers, and pursuit of extramural research funding as needed. Faculty members serve as advisors and mentors to students and are expected to engage students in undergraduate research. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach online and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings. Faculty may also elect to teach New Student Seminar or University Learning Communities, or participate in other programs geared toward improving to student success.
