Call for Abstracts for Brain Awareness Week 2010 at UPRM College of Arts and Sciences University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus Brain Awareness Week 2010 March 15-19, 2010 – University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez Campus Call for Abstracts Abstract Deadline: March 5, 2010 The Brain Awareness Week Organizing Committee kindly invites you to join us at the celebration of Brain Awareness Week 2010 at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus by submitting your abstract for evaluation and further presentation of your work in neuro- and behavioral-sciences during the event’s poster session. Posters will be exhibited on March 18, 2010 from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Department of Biology. Participants are welcome to realize poster presentations of their research findings. Three prizes will be awarded to the highest graded presentations. Awards will include: · $250.00 – First Prize Winner · $100.00 – Second Prize Winner · $50.00 – Third Prize Winner Come share with us your passion for neuro- and behavioral- sciences and meet with investigators who work revealing the mysteries of the brain and the origins of cognition and behavior. On March 18, we will be honored to have Ricardo Dolmetsch, Ph.D., from the Stanford Institute for Neuro-Innovation & Translational Neurosciences, presenting his work using pluripotent stem cells derived from autistic patients for developing neurons and studying the biological basis of Autism Spectrum Disorders. Cordially, Amanda Clinton, Ph.D. Chair, BAW-UPRM Organizing Committee Assistant Professor of Psychology University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus Abstract Deadline: March 5, 2010 Content of Abstract The Brain Awareness Week Organizing Committee will evaluate the scientific quality of the abstract on the basis of the novelty of the research, significance of the findings, and clarity. The authors should be particularly cognizant of the importance of setting forth the objectives and hypothesis of the research in a clear, succinct manner and of summarizing the most relevant results. Abstract should contain an introductory sentence that indicates the purpose of the study; a brief description of pertinent experimental procedures; a summary of the results; and a conclusion statement. Limit the text of the abstract to 500 words. Authors must accept sole responsibility for the statements in their abstracts and exercise careful attention to details when proofreading the text in order to avoid errors in the submitted document. American English spelling is recommended. Information regarding American spelling may be found by referring to Scientific Style and Format: The CSE Manual for Authors, Editors, and Publishers, Seventh Edition (Council of Science Editors, 2006). Procedure for Submitting Abstracts Authors must submit abstracts for presentation at Brain Awareness Week 2010 by attaching the abstract as a single file (Word - 2003 or earlier, PDF, or JPG format, please no *.docx files) to an e-mail that must be send to brainawareness@uprm.edu. The file should be named as indicated below and the first page of the abstract must include the name of the presenting author and the research hosting institution. All other pages of the abstract must include the presenting author’s name at the top of each page. The availability for abstract evaluation begins on January 1, 2010 and a confirmation receipt will be e-mailed to the corresponding author at the address used submission upon authentication of the delivery message. Note: The e-mail confirmation receipt is not a notice of acceptance of the abstract for presentation at Brain Awareness Week. Acceptance and confirmation for presentation will be issued on March 05, 2010. Procedure for naming the abstract file The file attachment must be named with the presenting author’s last name followed by the first name, the word “abstract” and the initials of the institution where currently working/studying. If the presenting author’s name is John Doe and he studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, his file should be named as follows: Doe_John_Abstract_UPRM Posters’ dimensions should not exceed 42 inches of height and 96 inches of width.
