The Global Health Equity Scholars (GHES) program is a 12-month research training fellowship at selected institutions in low-and-middle-income countries (LMIC). The GHES is one of six consortiums supported by the NIH Fogarty International Center Global Health Program for Fellows and Scholars. The GHES consortium includes Yale University (PI: Dr. Albert Ko), the University of California Berkeley, Stanford University, and the University of Arizona.

The 2022-2023 application cycle for the GHES program has officially opened. Application materials should be submitted online by November 1, 2021. Details about the program, eligibility information and the application process can be found on the website at http://ghes.berkeley.edu/. NIH/FIC is prioritizing proposals that involve HIV/AIDS research, and prioritizing funding for US postdoctoral fellows. NIAID topics such as malaria, dengue, Zika, and TB (without HIV or lung health) will likely only be funded by FIC funds and therefore it will be a competitive area, especially for LMIC applicants. Any application that doesn’t fall within these areas can still be funded, but it will have to be funded by FIC only, which is more limited.
