Call for JUMI Fellows in the USThe Joint Undertaking for an African Materials Institute (JUAMI), formerly the Joint-US Africa Materials Institute, invites student applicants to participate in a two week summer school on Materials for Sustainable Energy. JUAMI has as its objectives the development of joint materials research and education activities between universities in Africa, the US and Europe. The major activity of this institute is an intensive two-week school in Africa with instruction by world-renowned researchers. Activities feature tutorials on cutting-edge energy materials topics; hands-on experiments and learning activities; research seminars by top materials scientists; and local cultural outings. Instruction will be provided to approximately 65 graduate and postdoctoral researchers, 20-25 from the US and 40-45 from Africa. For these selected JUAMI Fellows, all expenses, including travel costs, lodging and meals, will be paid for by the JUAMI. To be eligible, a US applicant must be a student enrolled in the doctoral program of their institution and should be performing materials research in the area of sustainable energy. Post-doctoral applications will be considered under exceptional circumstances. Successful applicants will have a strong interest in developing collaborations across international borders (US students with African students, and vice versa).

Application Package (Deadline March 15, 2016): (1) A resume; (2) description of current research (less than 600 words); (3) brief explanation for interest (less than 500 words).  A single pdf of the entire package should be sent to: mat-JUSAMI@umich.edu.  (4) A letter of support from a mentor/supervisor, sent separately to the same address.
