It was created to commemorate the completion of the Human Genome Project in April 2003, and the discovery of DNA's double helix. Take part in the activities available on this page for the upcoming DNA Day and from DNA Day celebrations in the past. All are aimed at inspiring the next generation of scientists who will use the human genome sequence to benefit human health. NHGRI Ambassador Program The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) participates each year in National DNA Day by sending researchers out to high schools around the country. These "Ambassadors" visit classrooms for a day in April to talk about their research, their career path or what's exciting in genetic research today. Each year, the NHGRI selects a region of the country to send Ambassadors, with the goal to establish new relationships with teachers and schools. For 2007, Ambassadors will be traveling to North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia. If your school is in this region, and you would like an Ambassador to visit your school, contact us at DNADay@mail.nih.gov. For a list of speakers in your region, visit GeneEdNet and the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) at www.ashg.org/genetics/ashg/mentor/genednet-mentor.shtml for the ASHG Mentor Network.
