We are in the process of hiring a Program Director for our new IMSD Program titled  the Duke Biosciences Collaborative for Research Engagement (Duke BioCoRE). Duke BioCoE is an institutional program that seeks to broaden participation in the sciences through building a cohesive and dynamically interactive community of scientists. BioCoRE is specifically designed to coordinate scientific development across the School of Medicine, the Graduate School, the Pratt School of Engineering, and Trinity College for Undergraduates. Duke BioCoRE has extensive programming for undergraduate and graduate Scholars, as well for our faculty affiliates and administrative partners. The Program Director position will be much broader than a typical IMSD Program because of the institutional nature of our position. Outside of administrative duties and programmatic leadership, the Program Director position will also direct a newly developed course titled "Pathways to Biomedical Research", develop scientific learning communities, and have the opportunity to engage in research on the interventions that are components of Duke BioCoRE. More information can be found on the attached job ad and in the paragraph included below. Please spread the word far and wide—we are eager to get a Director with the caliber of leadership, scientific knowledge and student development experience that is required to develop Duke BioCoRE to its fullest potential!

What is BioCoRE? Duke BioCoRE is a new institutional program centered on building an inclusive community of research scholars in the biomedical, biological and behavioral sciences. All incoming PhD students in bioscience departments and programs are invited to apply. Scholars will be appointed based on the fit of the applicants to the program goals and slot availability. BioCoRE will provide extended research experiences for Undergraduate BioCoRE Scholars, enhanced opportunities that complement the bioscience graduate programs for Graduate BioCoRE Scholars, and multiple career engagement and social activities for Undergraduate and Graduate Scholars, as well as involved faculty members from the School of Medicine, the Graduate School, Trinity College, and Pratt School of Engineering. One major goal of BioCoRE is to increase the diversity of scientists in the biosciences, and another is to promote student development with research experiences, engagement with faculty, and career development activities. Any student seeking to be a part of the BioCoRE community should be committed to these goals.

BioCoRE is dedicated to increasing diversity in the biosciences, and we consider diversity in a broad sense (e.g., racial and ethnic, first generation, unique life experiences, religion, disadvantaged backgrounds, disabilities, LGBT, etc). We will select a diverse pool of Scholars, including individuals who embrace the goal of increased diversity but do not belong to a particular underrepresented group in biosciences.
