Un mensaje de la presidenta de la Asociacion Americana de Microbiologia (ASM) Dear Colleague, We are pleased to alert you to an exciting new student-initiated grassroots effort to promote a sustained federal investment in scientific, technological, engineering and mathematics (STEM) research and education programs. In an open letter to policymakers, undergraduate and graduate students explain why continued investments in STEM research and education programs are essential to their future career development. The letter encourages "Congress and the President to make sustained investments in the nation's scientific research, education, and training programs. The extramural, competitive, peer-reviewed grant programs administered by federal agencies are critical to our nation's scientific enterprise and future." The letter is open for signature by any student who is pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree in a STEM field. The letter and sign-on page are available at http://www.aibs.org/public-policy/science_students_letter.html. Sincerely, Bonnie Bassler, Ph.D., President, ASM Roberto Kolter, Ph.D., Chair, Public and Scientific Affairs Board
