Education Director The Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) is seeking applicants for the position of Education Director. The position is based in San José, Costa Rica. Start Date: January 1, 2012 Application deadline: September 1, 2011 (applications will be reviewed as they are received) Definition of job position: The primary responsibility of the Education Director (ED) is to provide leadership and direct all of OTS's education programs in Costa Rica, at the graduate and undergraduate level. The ED takes lead responsibility within the organization for keeping the educational programs vibrant and at the cutting-edge, with the goals of meeting the needs of the OTS consortium and developing/preparing the scientific workforce of tomorrow. The ED reports to the General Director of the Costa Rican OTS office. Required Qualifications: Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Environmental Science, Science Education, or related discipline. Bilingual: Spanish/English. Experience: Proven experience in teaching and leading field courses. Demonstration of academic achievement and continuing involvement in professional activity, which might include: Ongoing research program in science or science pedagogy Publication of results or outreach Regular attendance at professional meetings Preferred qualifications: The Education Director should have experience and knowledge in administration, personnel management, and budget management. The Education Director should be familiar with the scientific establishment and Organization for Tropical Studies. Basic duties: The Education Director portfolio comprises three basic areas, as detailed below. Additionally, the ED will carry out special projects as directed by the General Director, CEO, and the President of OTS. Program Development and Assessment: Take lead responsibility in identifying new undergraduate and graduate programs to be offered by OTS Take lead responsibility in curriculum development and course planning for all OTS Educational Programs at undergraduate and graduate level Coordinate and communicate regularly with the OTS Education Committee Contribute to the development and implementation of program assessment tools that follow OTS-wide standards Take lead responsibility in writing grants to support educational programs Educational Staff Oversight: Hire faculty and education staff Supervise education staff Develop training programs for faculty following OTS-wide standards (coordinate with Vice President for Global Programs) Coordinate training of new faculty and annual faculty development programs Evaluate faculty performance Program Implementation Participate regularly in OTS courses in the field Develop annual education budget and oversee its implementation Ensure compliance with OTS risk management policies Coordinate recruiting with enrollment management team in OTS North American Office Communicate regularly with Duke Study Abroad Office Communicate regularly with Duke Study Abroad Office Questions: contact Dr. Elizabeth Braker, chair, Education Director Search: bbraker@oxy.edu To apply: Submit a single document as a pdf file that includes cover letter, curriculum vitae with list of 3 references, and statement of teaching and management philosophies to: Marisol Marín from Human Resources using this form.
