Georgetown University invites applications for a faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level, in the area of Cognitive Neuroscience with a focus on Human Aging. The position will commence August 1, 2017. We seek to fill the position with an exceptional candidate whose research program has a strong theoretical and experimental basis that employs cutting edge methods and straddles disciplinary boundaries. Candidates from any area of cognitive neuroscience of human aging are welcome. However, we are especially interested in those whose research specializes in the effects of aging on the neural bases of learning or memory in humans. The position will be part of a new initiative bridging the Departments of Psychology and Neuroscience, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

 

Ideal applicants should have a record of achievement in innovative research. Moreover, they should have demonstrated potential both to develop an outstanding, extramurally funded research program, and to be a leader in their field. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and to doctoral training in cognitive neuroscience.

 

The successful applicant will have access to significant research resources at Georgetown University. The university has a modern brain-imaging facility with a research-dedicated 3T magnet, and technical support for structural and functional imaging (https://cfmi.georgetown.edu). Additional resources include facilities for EEG, fNIRS, and TMS research. The university has a multiinstitutional CTSA (Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science; http://georgetownhowardctsa.org/about-ghuccts/aboutghuccts), and a vibrant cognitive neuroscience community, which spans the Departments of Psychology, Neuroscience, Pediatrics, and Neurology. Research on aging and/or learning and memory is conducted across multiple units within the university, including the School of Medicine, School of Nursing and Health Studies, the McCourt School of Public Policy, and the School of Law.

 

Additionally, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is developing a new interdisciplinary graduate program in Aging. This program aims to train a new cadre of professional in the emerging professions around socio-psychologicalmedical services for the elderly. The program will also train students in politicoeconomical analyses for public-policy entities.
