Come join the FHWA’s 24-month Professional Development Program (PDP). The FHWA PDP is seeking talented individuals: intelligent, motivated men and women with maturity, good judgment, spirit, imagination, energy, and a commitment to excellence for careers in public service. The FHWA is hiring: Civil Engineers (Highway, Structures, Geotechnical, Safety, Construction/Transportation Management, and Intelligent Transportation Systems) The 24-mo nth PDP is designed to introduce the participant to the technical, administrative, and program management aspects of highway engineering in the agency. During this development program, the participant will complete three major components including apprentice experience, developmental assignments, and a professional development academy. These assignments may occur anywhere in the country and can include an FHWA office, other Department of Transportation modal agencies, other Federal, State or local agencies, or private industry partners. Participants will be expected to temporarily relocate to other geographic locations to complete the developmental assignments. During the professional development academy, the employee will participate in a series of training modules, which will include an agency orientation and the opportunity to develop professional skills, including communication and interpersonal skills.
