Want to do biomedical research training at NIH? The Intramural Research Program is the internal research arm of the NIH. Our scientists, trainees, and fellows work in a collaborative research environment using cutting-edge tools to perform interdisciplinary research from the bench to the bedside. We’d like to invite you to learn about training opportunities in the NIH Intramural Research Program for college students, graduate/professional school students, and recent doctoral degree holders.

Summer Internship Program

The NIH Summer Internship Program (NIH SIP) is an opportunity to spend a summer experiencing the biomedical research environment of the NIH Intramural Research Program. In addition to full-time research, all summer interns have access to career, professional, and well-being offerings. This program is for college students, community college students, graduate students, and professional school students. The application opens December 8^th, 2025 by 9 am, and closes on February 18, 2026, at noon (ET) with reference letters due on February 25, 2026 at noon (ET).
