Synopsis of Funding Opportunity
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), solicits applications that propose genetic, physiological, and ecological studies designed to reveal the basic principles and mechanisms that govern the symbiotic systems dynamics of host-associated microbial communities.
Award Information:
Funding Instrument: Grant
Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards: NIGMS intends to commit $2.5 million in FY 2013. Approximately 5-7 awards are anticipated.
Award Budget: Although the size of award will vary with the scope of the research proposed, budget requests should not exceed $250,000 (direct cost) per year except that in first year additional funds not to exceed $100K (direct cost) may be requested for exceptional equipment needed for highly specialized purposes (e.g., single molecule imaging microscope, germ-free mice incubator, etc.).
Award Project Period: Scope of the proposed project should determine the project period. The maximum award period is 5 years although most awards will be for 4 years.
