Penn State STEM Fall Open House

The Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, College of Engineering, and Eberly College of Science would like to invite underrepresented junior and senior undergraduates interested in graduate school to visit the Penn State University Park campus. Students with a strong academic record and research background will be invited to campus to learn about research opportunities and graduate education at Penn State. The STEM Fall Open House will begin on the afternoon of Friday, September 27th and will end with breakfast on Sunday, September 29th. Students selected for the program will be diverse U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents who are potential candidates for our STEM graduate programs.  All participants will be provided with meals, hotel accommodations, and transportation to and from the program.

Program Highlights:

• Exploring research interests through individual meetings with potential research advisors
• Academic program visits including a session with admissions committee chairs
• Information on University resources and the graduate education experience from Penn State faculty, staff, and students
• Tours of campus and the State College community

To apply [deadline August 20, 2013]:

• Select your area(s) of interest from the list of participating programs
• Assemble your application materials:
• Biographical and contact information
• Short statement of research interest and why Penn State is the place to realize those interests
• One evaluation letter from a faculty member
• Unofficial or official academic transcript(s) from all colleges/universities attended
• List of classes scheduled for upcoming fall semester
• Complete the online application

Successful applicants will be notified via email by September 1st. Meals and hotel accommodations as well as reasonable travel costs to and from the event will be provided.
