I am located at the Knipling-Bushland U.S. Livestock Insects Research Laboratory in Kerrville, Texas. I am currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Research Molecular Biologist) for a full-time, 2-year appointment. This position requires a recent Ph.D. (within last 4 years) in Biological Science, Biochemistry, Entomology, or a related field providing background knowledge/experience/skill including nucleic acid molecular biology techniques, quantification of gene expression, gene silencing, bioinformatics, arthropod physiology, cell culture, and/or neuroscience. Salary is commensurate with experience ($57,408 per annum) plus benefits. During this appointment, the incumbent will: a) isolate, sequence, & characterize microRNAs from various tissues and life stages of cattle ticks and biting flies; b) conduct database searches in silico to identify presumptive microRNA target sites; and c) introduce microRNAs in vivo and determine effects of microRNAs on presumptive target gene expression and phenotypic parameters (physiology, reproduction, etc.). The incumbent will work with other scientists to process, analyze, and assemble sequencing data with annotation,as well as curation into our existing gene sequence databases for cattle tick and stable fly.
