The Ponce Research Institute is recruiting a competent bilingual professional for a Post Doctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. James Porter.
This full-time Post-Doc will evaluate whether early-life neglect and adolescent cocaine use interact to increase susceptibility to or generalization of conditioned fear or impair fear extinction in a rat model. The research involves small animal surgery, viral manipulation of proteins and neuronal circuits, and electrophysiology to examine the effects of developmental stress and cocaine use on PTSD-related behaviors from a behavioral, circuit, cellular, and molecular level in an animal model.
The candidate should meet the following qualifications/essential responsibilities:
- Ph.D. or MD with research experience in neuroscience or related field.
- Research experience in molecular biology, electrophysiology, or animal behavior is a plus.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills in English.
- Independent and self-motivated to work in a highly interactive and collaborative scientific environment.
