Position Summary: The Study of Latinos ‐ Investigation of Neurocognitive Aging (SOL‐INCA) is seeking a qualified Postdoctoral Fellow(s) for a study of Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s disease in a large, multisite study of diverse Latinos. This NIA funded research associate (postdoctoral) position is now available in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Michigan State University. SOL‐INCA is a large, multisite (Bronx, Chicago, Miami, San Diego), prospective cohort study of Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia among middle‐aged and older multiethnic Latinos.

SOL‐INCA is an Ancillary Study of the NHLBI funded Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL). This postdoctoral position offers excellent opportunities for advanced training in neuroepidemiology, publishing high‐impact scholarly work and launching a productive and successful research career. The succesfull applicant will have the opportunity to work with leading experts in the fields of neurocognitive function, cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease, and genetics.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in neurology, neuropsychology, epidemiology or closely related field is required. Evidence of research productivity is essential. A good working knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia(s) research is critical. Successful applicants must have outstanding communication, management, and networking skills to meet the demands of conducting a multi‐site neuroepidemiologic study. The successful applicant will be highly creative and self‐motivated to produce high‐impact manuscripts for peer‐reviewed publications, as well as developing and submitting NIH or similar grant applications. Additionally, successful applicants should have competency in working with large neuroepidemiologic studies and data, and interest in teaching.

Desired Qualifications: Spanish proficiency is highly desired and sought since all study materials are in English and Spanish. Secondly, new opportunities for work in Latin America with Latin American collaborators and trainees will stem from SOL‐INCA. Candidates should have a deep appreciation and understanding of Latin American culture and history.

Specific Duties and Areas of Responsibility:

• Identify knowledge gaps in the field of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and neurocognitive decline and design innovative scientific studies and methodological approaches to address these gaps.
• Refine and integrate existing models for studying neurocognitive function and adapt these models for application in large neurepidemiolgical studies.
• Lead and co‐author scientific papers for publication in high‐impact peer reviewed journals.
• Present scientific findings at national and international scientific meetings.
• Assist in grant writing, and eventually lead proposals to fund related work.
• Supervise junior project personnel.

An initial 12 month appointment may be renewable annually, contingent upon satisfactory job performance. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
