Postdoctoral Research Position in Active Particles in Biological Systems

A postdoctoral position is available at the Institute for Functional Nanomaterials at the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez (UPRM) in collaboration with the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) to work in the areas of biofluids, autonomous nano- and micro-motors/devices, and the design of smart and reconfigurable soft bionanomaterials. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to develop a biocompatible autonomous drug delivery system. This work will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Ubaldo M. Córdova-Figueroa and Dr. Madeline Torres from the Department of Chemical Engineering at UPRM and Dr. Ayusman Sen from the Department of Chemistry at PSU.

We are seeking candidates who are highly motivated and career-oriented. Candidates are expected to have a PhD degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science or related fields.

Salary, benefits and visa sponsorship: The initial appointment will be for a period of 12 months, renewal will be granted at this period based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds. The salary is approximately $42,000 per year plus additional fringe benefits (e.g. health insurance, faculty aids). UPRM will sponsor a visa for non-US citizens/permanent residents if they are found to be eligible candidates.

The postdoc will also be exposed to a mentoring program and professional development activities organized by the Research Academy for Faculty and Postdoctoral Fellows at UPRM. During his/her visits to PSU, participation in outreach activities impacting primary underrepresented groups in STEM fields is expected.
