Rising Stars in Neuroscience Symposium for PhD Students: Present your work, receive training, and apply for postdoc fellowships

The Rising Stars in Neuroscience Symposium seeks to provide career development and mentorship for outstanding late-stage graduate students in neuroscience, with a strong focus on spotlighting scientists from under-represented groups.

Selected applicants will receive:

  • An invitation to present their research at a two-day symposium at the University of Utah.
  • Scientific-communication training through a multi-stage workshop led by renowned sci-comm expert Dr. Brett Mensh, founder of Optimize Science.
  • One-on-one mentorship with Utah faculty.
  • Invited speakers will be eligible to apply for the University of Utah – Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy – Rising Stars in Neuroscience Postdoctoral Award ($5,000).

Eligibility

Participation is limited to pre-doctoral trainees who, at the application deadline, have completed a minimum of 3 years of their doctoral training on a neuroscience-related project. Competitive applicants will have demonstrated strong scientific achievements and a commitment towards increasing diversity in science.

The Rising Stars in Neuroscience - Postdoctoral Award will be offered, following the symposium, to top ranked invited speakers that commit to postdoctoral training within a Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy lab at the University of Utah.

  • Two letters of recommendation: please provide reference names and email contacts.

Hosted Virtually

  • One-hour lecture in sci-comms principles.
  • Small group module focusing on developing scope and capturing attention.
  • Otpional follow-up meeting with faculty mentor.

Invited Lecture Symposium: May 19-20, 2021

Hosted at University of Utah pending Covid-19 travel restrictions.
