The Yale Alumni Service Corps program is looking for Puerto Rican undergraduate and graduate students, as well as clinical residents, fellows or staff, interested in volunteering to serve as translators (English/Spanish) for a group of ~50 Yale Alumni that will visit Puerto Rico March 7-15, 2020 to undertake education, art, construction, and public health-related service projects.

The group is particularly interested in recruiting students with health/pre-med or science backgrounds.

During the service trip, students will work as translators in the support of projects benefitting Residencial Luis Llorens Torres and organized in partnership with Instituto Nueva Escuela (INE), a non-profit organization whose mission is bringing Montessori education to public schools and supporting the families of enrolled students. The Yale Alumni Service program will provide lunch and transportation from the Hotel Verdanza to the schools in Llorens Torres and back. We’ll be working mostly with children, ages 5-14 years old through the various projects. Volunteer translators/interpreters should be available from (8am – 3pm) during the work week of the service program (Monday, March 9 – Friday, March 13). The ideal volunteer will be fully bilingual and able to participate the full 5 days.

Upon completion of the work, volunteers will receive a certificate from the Yale Alumni Service Corps acknowledging their service and contribution to the program.

If interested, please contact:

Elena Labrada or Joao Alexio, co-organizers of the event.
