The main goal of Saturday Research Academy Program (SRAP) of the Student Research Development Center (SRDC) is to encourage pre-college research, develop student’s written and oral communication skills, and provide a forum in Puerto Rico for students to foster interest in undergraduate and graduate education, particularly in the STEM-C fields. Historically, students who stated their scientific research experience in early stages are more likely to aspire to the highest levels of personal education (Ph.D., M.D.)

During the academic semester of January to May 2017, starting on January 28, 2017, the selected participants will have a minimum of 60 contact hours to develop a research under the mentoring of experienced undergraduate and graduate researchers from the Ana G. Méndez University System (AGMUS) and partner institutions. During this period (16 Saturdays) the participants will learn about the scientific method, critical thinking, and learn first-hand research techniques from experienced research mentors. How to prepare a research abstract and a Poster, or an oral presentation and the programs will include ethics in research.

For a period of 16 Saturdays the student participant will:

  • Learn / develop research skills
  • Develop / polish their written and communication skills
  • Learn to prepare a competitive project and presentation
  • Work as a team member
  • Conduct pre-college mentored research

 The students can have the opportunity to apply for the SRDC-AGMUS Pre-College Summer Research Internship Programs (when available). The SRDC staff will help with the application process.

Enrollment will have a fee of $100 which includes the research mentorship, official certification of participation as a student researcher, access to the institution facilities and talks by scientists from the US and worldwide scientific professionals and impression of their presentation materials (Poster).

RESEARCH AREAS AVAILABLE: Neurocircuits (Neuroscience), Genomics, Game Design and Development, Drones, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science, Biology, Robotics, Engineering and Environmental Science.

The enrollment Program fee is not reimbursable and must be paid immediately after program acceptance, by contacting Ms. Thelma Graniela (787.751.0178, x. 6005). The payment can be completed by phone with a valid credit card (VISA/ MASTER CARD). Debit cards with VISA/MC LOGO are also accepted, Money Orders, Personal Checks or in cash.
