The Department of Biology at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level to begin August 2019. We seek a candidate with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, experience with and/or a commitment to using and developing innovative teaching methods, and the ability to engage graduate (M.S. level) and undergraduate students in research. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching of: the core sequence for majors, including general biology; a survey course on a major group of animals; and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of specialization. Ability to teach general ecology and/or contribute to the interdisciplinary Environmental Sciences program is highly desirable, but not required. In addition to teaching and maintaining an active research program, the successful candidate will also be expected to participate in service to the department, college and university, contribute to University efforts to address student enrollment, retention and success, and provide support for requirements such as First Year Experience, University Core Curriculum and the Writing Intensive Program. An earned doctorate in biology or a related field is required.

The Biology Department serves 300+ undergraduate majors, 50+ minors and 30+ graduate students. The research and teaching interests of faculty in the Department range from ecological to organismal, cellular, and molecular biology.
