We have an exciting full-time opportunity for a Video Producer to join the Science Digital Media Department in our Washington, D.C. office. Reporting to the Multimedia Manager, this individual will be responsible for creating videos including but not limited to developing scripts, editing, narration, and posting videos for the Science website and social media platforms.  Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pitch ideas, write scripts, and create video for Science and its social channels
  • Assist with motion graphics ideation and creation
  • Assist with in-house and occasional on-location video shoots
  • Serve as an advocate for multimedia projects as editorial proposals are presented
  • Collaborate with other departments, including the Web Producers and the Science Visuals team, the news team, and research editors 
  • Assist with writing and audio production for the Science Podcast
  • Contribute to interactive multimedia presentations as needed
  • Completes projects quickly, accurately, and to the highest journalistic standards
  • Additional duties as assigned

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a science-related field or journalism
  • Minimum of three years’ relevant experience in science communication and/or multimedia
  • Keen interest in science and demonstrated expertise in storytelling for web, audio, and video 
  • Experience in science writing, video editing, motion graphics, and sound design for projects ranging from short video clips to highly produced multimedia packages
  • Video production experience is preferred
  • Comfortable in a deadline-driven environment and working on multiple projects 
  • Fluent in current video software for editing (Adobe Premiere Pro CC), graphics manipulation (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), and audio editing (Audition)
  • Experience with After Effects preferred, Cinema 4D is a plus
  • Ability to travel
