The National Hispanic Environmental Council (NHEC) is still accepting applications from students to attend our upcoming 1st annual "Washington Minority Youth Environmental Training Institute", to be held August 4-8, 2008, in Washington, D.C. The Washington Institute is an intensive, acience-based, 5 day environmental program for talented teens, aged 16-18, selected competitively from across the Washington, D.C. area. The Institute is also partially residential -- students will stay overnight for the last two days of the Institute, in comfortable cabins at Prince William Forest Park. Through a full scholarship, NHEC will pay ALL costs for students accepted into the Institute, including housing, meals, books, equipment, etc. This program is based on our successful national Institute we've held the last 7 years in New Mexico, as well our other regional Institutes in New York City and in California. The Institute is held in conjunction with and is funded by the National Capital Region of the National Park Service (NPS), and is conducted at several national parks in the Washington area, including Rock Creek Park, Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, the national monuments on the Mall, and Prince William Forest Park. The Institute is designed to not only teach students about the environment, but to introduce them to the National Park Service and their important mission. National Park Service is actively seeking to recruit talented, motivated teens, especially minority youth, to come work for them this summer, next summer, and into the future.
