Bienvenidos a CienciaPR, una red de recursos para todos los interesados en las ciencias y en Puerto Rico.
I am majoring in Environmental Science at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico in Aguadilla, PR. I work as an undergraduate research assistant, under the mentorship of professor Odalys S. Álvarez-Pérez, studying antimicrobial resistance genes in Enterococcus spp. from marine water environments, and more recently, I have been working with Dr. Rubén J. Hernández-García, studying the presence of the Puerto Rican slider (Trachemys stejnegeri stejnegeri) in freshwater bodies of western towns of Puerto Rico and analyzing water quality and stream bank soil nutrients of their habitat. Last summer, I worked as a field research technician at Montclair State University's New Jersey School of Conservation in Branchville, NJ, where I assisted in the mark-recapture data of four northeast turtle species. This summer, I will be an undergraduate research assistant at the University of Notre Dame Environmental Research Center in Land O' Lakes, WI. I was the president of the Student Society for Environmental Science and Toxicology from 2018 to 2019, now I am the treasurer and the education and public outreach coordinator. I am also member of the American Society of Microbiology and the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science. You can find me during the week at the STEM Tutoring Center (A211), where I work as an environmental science tutor.
