Bienvenidos a CienciaPR, una red de recursos para todos los interesados en las ciencias y en Puerto Rico.
I am an Environmental Science major at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico in Aguadilla, PR. I work under the mentorship of Prof. Odalys S. Álvarez-Pérez, studying antimicrobial resistance genes in Enterococcus spp. isolated from coastal water samples and native oysters. I recently worked with Dr. Rubén J. Hernández-García, studying the population of the Puerto Rican slider (Trachemys stejnegeri stejnegeri) and analyzing water quality and stream bank soil nutrient content in Quebrada Los Ramos, Rincón, PR. Last summer, I worked as a field research technician at Montclair State University's New Jersey School of Conservation in Branchville, NJ, where I assisted in the mark-recapture data of four northeast turtle species. Next summer, I will be working at the University of Notre Dame Environmental Research Center in Land O' Lakes, WI. I was the president of the Student Society for Environmental Science and Toxicology from 2018 to 2019, now I am the treasurer and education and community relations coordinator. I am also member of the American Society of Microbiology, the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science, and the National Association for Interpretation. You can find me during the week at the STEM Center (A-211), where I work as an environmental science tutor.
